Hawaiʻi Island Lane Closures: Week of January 19

The Department of Transportation announced the following Hawaiʻi Island lane closures during the week of January 19, 2026. In observance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day, there will be no lane closures on Monday, January 19 unless otherwise permitted. Lane closure schedules may change at any time without further notice.  All projects are weather permitting.

 

 

 VOLCANO ROAD (ROUTE 11) 

MOUNTAIN VIEW

Single lane closure on Volcano Road (Route 11) possible in either direction between mile post 13 to 14, in the vicinity of Enos Road and North Lauko Road, on Tuesday, January 20 to Friday, January 23 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. for shoulder work.

MOUNTAIN VIEW

Single lane closure on Volcano Road (Route 11) possible in either direction between mile post 16 to 23, in the vicinity of North Peck Road and Alii Kane Street, on Tuesday, January 20 to Friday, January 23 from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. for removal of existing striping and installation of centerline rumble strip, striping, and pavement markers.

 

VOLCANO

Single lane closure on Volcano Road (Route 11) possible in either direction between mile post 27 to 30, in the vicinity of Haunani Road and Kilauea Military Camp, on Tuesday, January 20 to Friday, January 23 from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. for HELCO installing new powerline poles and lines.

 

KAMEHAMEHA  AVENUE (ROUTE 11) 

HILO

Single lane closure on Kamehameha Avenue (Route 11) is possible in either direction near mile post 0.0, in the vicinity of Banyan Drive on Tuesday, January 20 to Friday, January 23 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. for work on faded markings at the intersection.

 

KANOELEHUA AVENUE (ROUTE 11) 

HILO

Single lane closure on Kanoelehua Avenue (Route 11) is possible in either direction between mile post 1 to 3, in the vicinity of East Lanikaula Street and East Palai Street on Tuesday, January 20 to Friday, January 23 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. for mowing.

 

MAMALAHOA HIGHWAY (ROUTE 11) 

VOLCANO

Single lane closure on Mamaloahoa Highway (Route 11) is possible in either direction between mile post 33 to 42, on Tuesday, January 20 to Friday, January 23 from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. for removing of existing striping, installation of centerline rumble strip, and pavement markers.

PAHALA TO NAALEHU

Single lane closure on Mamalahoa Highway (Route 11) is possible in either direction between mile post 50 to 60, on Tuesday, January 20 to Friday, January 23 from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. for removal of existing striping, installation of centerline rumble strip, striping, and permanent markers.

NAALEHU

Single lane closure on Mamalahoa Highway (Route 11) possible in either direction between mile post 58 to 60.5, on Tuesday, January 20 to Friday, January 23 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. for cutting grass.

HAWAIIAN OCEAN VIEW

Single lane closure on Mamalahoa Highway (Route 11) possible in either direction between mile post 70 to 83, on Tuesday, January 20 to Friday, January 23 from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. for removal of existing striping, installation of centerline rumble strips, new striping, and pavement markers.

CAPTAIN COOK

Single lane closure on Mamalahoa Highway (Route 11) possible in either direction between mile post 110 to 113, in the vicinity of Trousseau Road on Tuesday, January 20 to Friday, January 23 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. for mowing and shoulder work.

KUAKINI HIGHWAY (ROUTE 11) 

KEALAKEKUA

Single lane closure on Kuakini Highway (Route 11) possible in either direction between mile post 114 to 115, in the vicinity of West Honalo Road and Puuloa Road on Tuesday, January 20 to Friday, January 23 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. for mowing.

 

 HAWAII BELT ROAD (ROUTE 19)

1) HONOMU (WEEKEND/NIGHT WORK) (24 HOUR LANE CLOSURES)

Single lane closure on Hawaii Belt Road (Route 19) possible in either direction between mile post 12.3 to 12.8, from 12 a.m. Saturday, January 17 through 12 a.m. Friday, January 23 for emergency zone work, pavement repair.

2) HONOMU (WEEKEND/DAILY/NIGHT WORK) (24 HOUR LANE CLOSURES)

Single lane closure on Hawaii Belt Road (Route 19) possible in either direction between mile post 13.5 to 13.7, from 12 a.m. Saturday, January 17 through 12 a.m. Sunday, January 18 for emergency zone work, pavement repair.

— PAHOA KALAPANA ROAD (ROUTE 130) —

Single lane closure on Pahoa Kalapana Road (Route 130) possible in either direction between mile post 15 to 20, in the vicinity of Alii Road and Old Kalapana Road, on Tuesday, January 20 to Friday, January 23 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. for shoulder work and mowing.

— MAMALAHOA HIGHWAY (ROUTE 190) —

 

1)  WAIMEA

Single lane closure on Mamalahoa Highway (Route 190) possible in either direction between mile post 0 to 1, in the vicinity of Lindsey Road and Lalamilo Farm Road, on Tuesday, January 20 to Friday, January 23 from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. for applying new striping.

2)  SOUTH KOHALA

Single lane closure on Mamalahoa Highway (Route 190) possible in either direction between mile post 12.2 to 16.4, on Tuesday, January 20 to Friday, January 23 from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. for applying new striping.

— AKAKA FALLS ROAD (ROUTE 220) —

Single lane closure on Akaka Falls Road (Route 220) possible in either direction between mile post 0.5 to 3.6, in the vicinity of Old Mamalahoa Highway, on Tuesday, January 20 to Friday, January 23 from 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. for work on faded road markings.

Single lane closure on Kohala Mountain Road (Route 250) possible in either direction between mile post 15 to 19, in the vicinity of Banana Ranch Road, on Tuesday, January 20 to Friday, January 23 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. for shoulder work.

Single lane closure on Puainako Street (Route 2000) possible in either direction between mile post 0.5 to 2.2, in the vicinity of Kanoelehua Avenue and Komohana Street, on Tuesday, January 20 to Friday, January 23 from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. for painting asphalt curbs and direction arrows.
