The State Department of Public Safety, which runs the prisons and jails in the state, has continued to test inmates for COVID-19 and is reporting more people who have contracted the virus. The count on August 14 was 124 prisoners and 23 guards/staff. As of Saturday, a day later, it increased to 166 prisoners and 32 staff.
According to the DPS, in a more detailed report on its web site, for the facilities on Hawaii Island:
Hawaii Community Correctional Center: tested 29, negative 29, and 49 inmates in isolation
Kulani Correctional Facility: tested 1, negative 1
