On Tuesday, October 4, HFD recovered the body of a male in the waters near Mahaiula Beach Park.
Crews responded after receiving a call from a dive boat crew member who reported that the boat’s captain, who remained on board the vessel while others went diving, was missing.
HFD’s chopper 2 located the male victim’s body approximately 30 yards off the shore of Mahaiula Beach Park. He was transported to Kona Community hospital and officially pronounced dead.
The incident is currently under investigation.
