University of Hawai’i at Hilo Athletics has named Garett Yukumoto as Vulcans Baseball Interim Head Coach for the upcoming 2026 season.
Yukumoto has been on the Vulcans staff as associate head coach since 2019 after serving 13 seasons (2006-2018) as head coach at his alma mater Hawai’i Pacific University (1993 graduate) — finishing with a 362-272-4 record as the Sharks’ all-time wins leader.
At HPU, Yukumoto had nine consecutive winning campaigns (2008-2016) highlighted by a PacWest Conference Championship in 2010. HPU finished as the NCAA West Regional runner-up that season and Yukumoto was voted the conference’s Coach of the Year. Against the Vulcans, the Yukumoto-led Sharks/Sea Warriors posted a 85-35-2 record.
Long-time Vulcans head coach Kallen Miyataki is set to retire from his position at the end of the current calendar year after 12 seasons as the program’s second-ever head coach (2014-2025) — finishing with a 192-306-1 record.
Yukumoto officially begins his duties on Jan. 5, 2026.
