Hawai‘i Island police are investigating a fatal single-vehicle ATV collision in Honoka‘a.
The crash, which took the life of a man, occurred late Saturday night on Mud Lane near Honoka‘a–Waipi‘o Road.
According to investigators, the man was operating a Honda four-wheel ATV while towing a trailer when he lost control. He was ejected as the ATV overturned and pinned beneath the vehicle.
Fire and medical personnel determined the man was beyond life-saving measures and pronounced him dead early Sunday morning.
An autopsy has been ordered to determine the exact cause of death. His identity is being withheld pending positive identification and notification of the next of kin.
At this time, speed, alcohol and/or drugs are not believed to be factors in this collision.
