Island Conversations #46–HELCO’s plan for North Kohala with Kevin Waltjen, HELCO Mgr for Hawaii Island

North Kohala is served by one transmission line that goes over Kohala Mountain Road, Hwy 250.  When it fails–car crash, tree on the line, whatever–the 2,000 customers (a home or business) in and around Hawi and Kapa’au are out of power.  Kevin Waltjen, Hawaii Island General Manager, explains HELCO’s plan to save the customers from the current 8- to 10-hour outages as he talks with Island Conversations host Sherry Bracken.
