Island Conversations #30 (Bonus)–30 Big Island residents win “Oscar of Physics”

After ten years of work, in April, 2019,  the announcement was made worldwide that 8 telescopes around the world took part in confirming and creating an image of a black hole.  It was given a Hawaiian name, Powehi, by UH Hilo College of Language Professor Dr. Larry Kimura.  On September 5, 2019, the Breakthrough Prize in Fundamental Physics was awarded to 347 people around the world who took part in this amazing discovery–including 30 technicians and scientists who work at two telescopes on the Big Island of Hawaii.  Dr. Geoff Bower of the Submillimeter Array atop Mauna Kea was
