Island Conversations –Episode #9–The Black Hole: Powehi, with Ka’iu Kimura (Imiloa Astronomy), Jessica Dempsey (East Asian Observatory), Doug Simons (Canada France Hawaii Telescope)

On April 10, 2019, a press conference was held in multiple locations worldwide to announce the discovery of/confirmation of a black hole, named Powehi by Hawaiian scholar Larry Kimura.  Ka’iu Kimura of Imiloa Astronomy, Jessica Dempsey of East Asian Observatory, and Doug Simons of Canada France Hawaii Telescope talk with Island Conversations host Sherry Bracken about how this impressive discovery came about, and about a new program of giving some celestial objects Hawaiian names.
